Features

What a Build Includes

Ask for the features marked Included and Fabricate builds them into your Kickstarter-style app. The ones marked Not built in are here so you know before you start.

A story, photos, a video link, a goal, an end date and a progress bar of what has been pledged.

Included

Reward Tiers

Tiers with a price, what backers get, an estimated delivery month and a limit on how many are left.

Included

Pledges by Card

On Pro and Max, backers pay by card through Stripe Checkout into your own Stripe account, and the total updates once Stripe confirms.

How It Works

Build Your Kickstarter Clone in 3 Steps

  1. 1

    Describe It

Tell Fabricate what features you want in your Kickstarter clone. Be as specific or general as you like.

  2. 2

    Generate It

Fabricate builds it as a web app with its own database and sign-in, and on Pro and Max card payments into your own Stripe account. Try it in the preview and ask for changes in the same chat.

  3. 3

    Launch It

Publish your clone with one click on Pro, and share its link with your first users.

In-depth guide

What goes into a Kickstarter clone built with Fabricate

A Kickstarter clone is a crowdfunding page built around rewards: a goal, an end date and tiers that give backers something in return. Built with Fabricate, it is one web app made from your description, with the project page, a backer list and an admin page for you, sharing one database.

Tiers and backers: each tier has a price, a description, an estimated delivery month and a limit. Backers pick a tier and pay, and afterwards fill in a form with their address and choices, so you can see every order by tier when it is time to ship.

Money: On Pro and Max, the app can take card payments through Stripe Checkout, paid into your own Stripe account, which you connect under More > Payments. Each pledge is paid when it is made rather than held until the goal is reached, so plan what you will do if the goal is missed and say it on the page.

What is not built in: all-or-nothing charging, payouts to other creators, emails to backers about updates, shipping labels and phone apps from the App Store or Google Play. Videos play from a YouTube or Vimeo link.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do pledges work?
On Pro and Max, the app can take card payments through Stripe Checkout, paid into your own Stripe account, which you connect under More > Payments. Each pledge is paid when it is made, and the total updates once Stripe confirms it. Fabricate takes no share of what you are paid; Stripe charges its own card fees.
Can it be all or nothing, like Kickstarter?
Not on its own. Holding pledges and charging them only if the goal is reached is not built in, so each pledge is paid at once. If the goal is missed, you refund backers in your Stripe dashboard, and you can say so on the project page.
Can other creators launch projects?
They can create a project page if you ask for it, but the money goes to your own Stripe account: paying each creator what their project raises is not built in. It suits your own projects, or a studio that runs every project itself.
Can I show a video?
Fabricate does not host video files. Each video plays from a link to YouTube or Vimeo, and anyone who has that video's own link can watch it, so use the video site's privacy settings for anything you sell.
Are there rules for crowdfunding?
Often, yes: rules on taking money before you deliver, on refunds and on taxes vary by country and state. Check what applies to you, and ask an adviser if you are unsure.
Is it legal to build a Kickstarter clone?
Building an app that works in a similar way is common, but do not use Kickstarter's name, logo, design or content. Fabricate writes your app's code from your description and does not copy Kickstarter's code. Pick a name of your own, and ask a lawyer if you are unsure.
