In-depth guide

What goes into a Zocdoc clone built with Fabricate

A Zocdoc clone is a booking site built around providers: patients search by specialty and area, compare profiles and book an open time. Built with Fabricate, it is one web app made from your description, with a sign-in for providers, its own database and an admin page for you.

Booking: each provider sets their hours and visit types, and the site shows the times still open. Patients book with a name, an email and a short reason, and providers see their day and block out time. On Pro and Max, the published site can email a confirmation and a reminder 24 hours before.

What it is not for: medical records, health histories and intake forms with clinical details. Fabricate does not offer HIPAA compliance or sign business associate agreements, so keep those in the systems you use today and keep health details off the site's forms.

What is not built in: syncing with a practice management system or an outside calendar, insurance checks, reminders by text message, video visits, and phone apps from the App Store or Google Play.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can it hold patient records?
No. Fabricate does not offer HIPAA compliance or sign business associate agreements, so keep medical histories, health forms and patient records where you keep them today. Build the site for providers, open times and booking, and keep health details off its forms.
Can patients book without an account?
Yes, if you ask for it: a patient picks a time and leaves a name, an email and a short reason. Or ask for patient accounts so people can see and cancel their own bookings.
Does it send reminders?
On Pro and Max, by email: once the site is published, you can turn on a confirmation email and a reminder email 24 hours before, up to a daily limit. Reminders by text message are not built in.
Does it sync with our practice management system?
No. The site keeps its own schedule for each provider, and syncing with a practice management system or an outside calendar is not built in, so block out busy times in it yourself.
Can patients pay a deposit?
On Pro and Max, the app can take card payments through Stripe Checkout, paid into your own Stripe account, which you connect under More > Payments. Ask for a deposit or a fee for visit types you choose. Fabricate takes no share of what you are paid; Stripe charges its own card fees.
Is it legal to build a Zocdoc clone?
Building an app that works in a similar way is common, but do not use Zocdoc's name, logo, design or content. Fabricate writes your app's code from your description and does not copy Zocdoc's code. Pick a name of your own, and ask a lawyer if you are unsure.
