What is OpenTable?
OpenTable is a restaurant reservation service where diners book tables and restaurants manage their bookings.
Why Build Your Own OpenTable Clone?
Bookings on your own restaurant's site
Your own list of guests and their notes
Your own rules for party sizes, times and deposits
One booking page for several restaurants you run
What a Build Includes
Ask for the features marked Included and Fabricate builds them into your OpenTable-style app. The ones marked Not built in are here so you know before you start.
Booking Page
Guests pick a date, a party size and a time that is still free, and leave their name, email and any notes such as allergies.
IncludedTables and Times
Your tables with their seats, the times you take bookings and how long each sitting lasts, so the app only offers times with a free table.
IncludedHost Screen
Staff see the day's bookings, seat guests, mark no-shows and add walk-ins. Ask for live updates and new messages and posts appear on open screens without a refresh, over a connection to the app's own server.
IncludedConfirmations and Reminders
On Pro and Max, once the app is published, Fabricate can email the guest a confirmation and a reminder 24 hours before, up to a daily limit.
IncludedDeposits
On Pro and Max, guests can pay a deposit for large parties or set menus through Stripe Checkout into your own Stripe account.
IncludedWaitlist
Guests join a waitlist for a full time, and staff offer them the table when one comes free.
IncludedText Message Reminders
Reminders by text message are not built in. Reminders go by email and, from an app published as a phone app on Pro and Max, to each person's own phone.

What goes into an OpenTable clone built with Fabricate
An OpenTable clone is a table booking app: guests choose a time for their party, and the restaurant sees every booking on one screen. Built with Fabricate, it is one web app made from your description, with a public booking page, a host screen for staff and an admin page for you, sharing one database.
Tables and times: you list your tables and seats, the hours you take bookings and how long a sitting lasts, and the booking page only offers times with a table free for that party size. Staff seat guests, add walk-ins and mark no-shows, and a full time can take a waitlist.
Guests and money: once the app is published, Fabricate emails you each booking, up to a daily limit, and on Pro and Max you can turn on a confirmation and a reminder email 24 hours before. On Pro and Max, the app can take card payments through Stripe Checkout, paid into your own Stripe account, which you connect under More > Payments.
What is not built in: text message reminders, saved cards charged for no-shows, bookings through other booking sites and phone apps from the App Store or Google Play.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Does it send confirmation emails and reminders?
- On Pro and Max, yes, by email: once the app is published, you can turn on a confirmation email to the guest and a reminder email 24 hours before, up to a daily limit. Published as a phone app on Pro and Max, the app can remind each person on their own phone at a time they set, such as before a booking, a class or a due date, even with the app closed; on an iPhone, once they have added it to the home screen. Reminders by text message are not built in.
- Can I take deposits or card details for no-shows?
- On Pro and Max, the app can take card payments through Stripe Checkout, paid into your own Stripe account, which you connect under More > Payments. Guests can pay a deposit when they book. Saving a card to charge later for a no-show is not built in. Fabricate takes no share of what you are paid; Stripe charges its own card fees.
- Can it work for several restaurants?
- Yes. Each restaurant can have its own tables, times and host screen, under one sign-in for you. Deposits all reach your own Stripe account.
- Can bookings come from Google or other sites?
- Bookings are made on the app's own booking page, which you can link from your website, Google profile and social pages. Taking bookings through other booking sites is not built in.
- Does it work on phones?
- Yes, in the phone's browser. It is a web app: it opens from its link in any phone or computer browser, and anyone can add it to their home screen from the browser. It is not an App Store or Google Play app. Published as a phone app on Pro and Max, it can remind each person on their own phone at a time they set; notifications about new activity, such as a new message, are not built in.
- Is it legal to build an OpenTable clone?
- Building an app that works in a similar way is common, but do not use OpenTable's name, logo, design or content. Fabricate writes your app's code from your description and does not copy OpenTable's code. Pick a name of your own, and ask a lawyer if you are unsure.
