How It Works

Build Your Coursera Clone in 3 Steps

  1. 1

    Describe It

Tell Fabricate what features you want in your Coursera clone. Be as specific or general as you like.

  2. 2

    Generate It

Fabricate builds it as a web app with its own database and sign-in, and on Pro and Max card payments into your own Stripe account. Try it in the preview and ask for changes in the same chat.

  3. 3

    Launch It

Publish your clone with one click on Pro, and share its link with your first users.

In-depth guide

What goes into a Coursera clone built with Fabricate

A Coursera clone is an online academy: structured courses, grouped into programs, with graded work and a certificate at the end. Built with Fabricate, it is one web app made from your description, with a sign-in for learners, its own database and an admin page for you.

Learning: each course is split into weeks and lessons with text, readings and a video from a YouTube or Vimeo link. Quizzes are marked straight away against a pass mark, progress is saved, and a learner who finishes gets a certificate page to print or save.

Money: On Pro and Max, the app can take card payments through Stripe Checkout, paid into your own Stripe account, which you connect under More > Payments. That suits paid courses and programs, or free courses for your own staff. Fabricate takes no share of what you are paid; Stripe charges its own card fees.

What is not built in: video hosting, accredited degrees, live classes, emails to learners about courses, and phone apps from the App Store or Google Play. Learners take courses in any phone or computer browser.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can learners pay for courses?
On Pro and Max, the app can take card payments through Stripe Checkout, paid into your own Stripe account, which you connect under More > Payments. Ask for a price on each course or program, and the course opens once Stripe confirms the payment. Fabricate takes no share of what you are paid; Stripe charges its own card fees.
Can lessons have videos?
Fabricate does not host video files. Each video plays from a link to YouTube or Vimeo, and anyone who has that video's own link can watch it, so use the video site's privacy settings for anything you sell.
Are the certificates accredited?
No. The app shows a certificate page with the learner's name, the course and the date, which they can print or save as a PDF. It is your academy's own certificate, not an accredited qualification.
Can several teachers publish courses?
Yes, if you ask for teacher accounts: each teacher signs in to build their own courses, and you approve them before they go live. Paying teachers a share of sales is not built in.
Can I add an AI tutor?
On Pro and Max, the app can use AI, to draft, answer, sort or summarise, with no AI account or key of your own; each answer is paid from your credits. Ask for a tutor that answers questions about a lesson.
Is it legal to build a Coursera clone?
Building an app that works in a similar way is common, but do not use Coursera's name, logo, design or content. Fabricate writes your app's code from your description and does not copy Coursera's code. Pick a name of your own, and ask a lawyer if you are unsure.
