DrapCode is now an AI app builder for regulated industries, with compliant hosting and a signed BAA. Fabricate builds web apps from a description, without those compliance programs.
The short answer: pick DrapCode for an app that handles patient data or other regulated data, where you need a signed business associate agreement, audit logs and certified hosting, at $650 a month for its cloud or from $10,000 to have it built. Pick Fabricate for an app without those requirements, built from a description and hosted when you publish; Fabricate does not offer HIPAA compliance. Building and previewing are free; publishing is on Pro and Max.

Pick it if your app does not handle patient health information or other regulated data
You want to start free and pay a monthly plan, not $650 a month or a project fee
Pick it if your app handles patient health information and you need a signed BAA
You need hosting certified for SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001, with audit logs
Feature by feature, with the tool that does each one better.
DrapCode has changed course. It now calls itself the AI app builder for regulated industries: healthcare, fintech and lending, legal tech and insurance. You describe the app, DrapCode generates the screens, you refine them in a visual builder, and DrapCode handles the compliance side: a business associate agreement signed on day one, encryption, audit logs, and hosting certified for SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001.
Compliance is what you pay for. DrapCode Cloud is $650 a month for up to 5 apps on dedicated resources, with backups every 6 hours, and Enterprise is priced on request; its team will also build an app for you in 4 weeks, from $10,000. DrapCode says your source code is yours to export and host wherever you want.
Fabricate does not offer HIPAA compliance, so the line is simple: an app that stores patient health information or other regulated data belongs on a platform with a signed BAA and certified hosting, such as DrapCode. Everything else, from a booking app to an internal tool or a customer portal without regulated data, is what Fabricate builds.
It builds them from a description, writing the screens and the backend into the app's own code: server routes in a Durable Object on Cloudflare Workers, its own SQLite database, and sign-in with hashed passwords and secure cookie sessions. Every app is opened in a real browser and checked before it can be published. Building and previewing are free; publishing is on Pro and Max.
A patient intake portal
DrapCode fits: patient health information needs a vendor that signs a BAA and hosts on compliant infrastructure. Fabricate does not offer HIPAA compliance.
Pick DrapCode
A booking app for a tutoring center
Fabricate fits: there is no regulated data, so you can start free, describe the app and publish it on a monthly plan.
Pick Fabricate
A loan application workflow
DrapCode fits: it is built for lending workflows with controlled access and traceable activity.
Pick DrapCode
An internal tool with no regulated data
Fabricate fits: describe the tool and it builds the screens, the database and the sign-in, for a monthly plan rather than $650 a month.
Pick Fabricate
DrapCode's cloud plan is $650 a month, and having its team build the app starts at $10,000 a project. Fabricate's Pro is $25 a month. The difference pays for compliance: a signed BAA, certified hosting, encryption and audit logs, which an app handling patient data needs and Fabricate does not offer. For an app without those requirements, Fabricate's credits pay for AI work, building and, on Pro and Max, the AI inside your apps, and serving the published app is part of the plan.
Fabricate writes this from the prompt: tables for tutors, slots and bookings, sign-in for parents, tutors and staff, and the rules for cancellations and the waitlist. None of it is regulated data, so the compliance DrapCode charges for is not needed. An app that stores patient health information is the case for DrapCode instead.
