Lovable vs Claude Code in 2026

Lovable builds a web app from a chat and hosts it, backend included. Claude Code is Anthropic's coding agent: it works in a codebase on your computer or in the cloud, and you deploy what it writes. What each costs, what it leaves to you, and how they fit together.

The short answer: if you want the app without handling code, Lovable. It builds and publishes the app, its database and sign-in, from a free plan or $25 a month. If you are comfortable in a codebase, Claude Code: an agent that edits files, runs commands and opens pull requests, from Claude Pro at $20 a month. It hosts nothing, so you deploy the result. Lovable's two-way GitHub sync lets you use both on one project.

When to pick which

  • Lovable

Lovable builds web apps from a conversation, and can start from a Figma design; it is also rolling out imports of projects from Bolt, Replit, v0, Base44 or a ZIP of code. Lovable Cloud, its built-in backend, adds a database, file storage, sign-in, realtime updates and server functions, or you can connect your own Supabase project instead, and built-in payments through Paddle or Stripe come with Pro and above. Every plan publishes to a lovable.app address, paid plans add your own domain, and GitHub sync works in both directions on every plan. Building the app, hosting it, its backend and the AI features inside it all draw on one credit balance.

    Choose it if

    • You want a hosted app with a database and sign-in, and no code to manage
    • You want to start on a free plan that already publishes
    • You want payments and your own domain included, on a $25 plan
    • You want to see the app change as you ask, rather than read diffs
  • Claude Code

Claude Code is Anthropic's coding agent. It reads your codebase, edits files, runs commands and works with your other tools, and it runs in the terminal, in VS Code and JetBrains, in a desktop app and in the browser, including on a phone. It works with git itself: it stages changes, writes commit messages, creates branches and opens pull requests. It reads a CLAUDE.md file (or an AGENTS.md) at the start of every session, connects to other tools through MCP, and can split a job across several agents. It comes with Claude's paid plans and runs Claude's models.

    Choose it if

    • You are comfortable in a terminal or an editor, and want an agent to take whole tasks
    • You already pay for Claude Pro, Max or Ultra, which include Claude Code
    • The code lives in your own repository, on a host you choose
    • You want commits, pull requests and reviews in GitHub, or runs in CI

An app builder and a coding agent

Lovable is an app builder: you describe the app, watch it appear in a preview, and ask for changes until it is right. The database, sign-in and file storage come from Lovable Cloud, payments through Paddle or Stripe from Pro, and publishing is one step to a lovable.app address or your own domain. You can open the code, but the product is the app.

Claude Code is a coding agent: you give it a task, it reads the codebase, plans, edits files, runs commands and tests, and hands back the change, often as a pull request. It runs in a terminal, VS Code, JetBrains, a desktop app or the browser, and comes with Claude's paid plans. What it does not do is host anything. The code goes in your repository, and the app runs where you deploy it.

The two meet at GitHub. Lovable syncs a project with a repository both ways on every plan, so a team can build the first version in Lovable and let Claude Code take on the harder changes in the same repository.

Which for which job

  • A non-technical founder's first app

Lovable builds and publishes it from a description, with sign-in and a database. Claude Code would leave the deploying and hosting to you.

    Pick Lovable

  • A developer adding features to an existing product

Claude Code works in the repository you already have: it reads the code, makes the change, runs the tests and can open a pull request.

    Pick Claude Code

  • Start fast, then hand to a developer

Build the first version in Lovable and connect it to GitHub. A developer can then run Claude Code on the same repository; Lovable's sync runs both ways, so each side sees the other's changes.

    Either works

  • You already pay for Claude

Claude Code comes with your plan at no extra cost until you reach its limits, so try it first if you can work in code.

What they cost

  • Lovable

    Free, $0
Free monthly grants, unlimited collaborators, and up to 5 lovable.app addresses.
    Pro, $25 a month
100 monthly credits that roll over, unlimited users, your own domain, no Lovable badge, and built-in payments.
    Business, $50 a month
100 monthly credits, with single sign-on, a team workspace and role-based access.
    Enterprise
    Custom, volume-based pricing.
  • Claude Code

    Free
No Claude Code: it needs a paid Claude plan.
    Pro, $20 a month
$17 a month billed yearly ($200 a year). Claude Code included, sharing usage limits with chat.
    Max, $100 a month
5x Pro's usage every five hours and every week, and $100 a month of API credits.
    Ultra, $200 a month
No five-hour limit for verified accounts, 10x Pro's usage every week, and $200 a month of API credits.
    Team and Enterprise
Team seats, and Enterprise at $20 a seat a month plus usage at API rates, billed yearly.

Claude Pro costs $5 less than Lovable Pro, $20 against $25 a month, and it pays for Claude chat as well as Claude Code. But Claude Code has no free plan, and it only writes code: hosting, a database and a domain are separate bills from wherever you deploy. Lovable's free plan can put an app online, and its $25 Pro covers building, hosting most small apps, Lovable Cloud and payments from 100 credits a month. For heavy use, Claude's Max is $100 a month for 5x Pro's usage, and Ultra $200 with no five-hour limit for verified accounts, while Lovable sells larger Pro sizes by credits.

Where Fabricate fits

We make Fabricate

A third option: the app built for you, with the backend in its own code

Lovable builds the app for you and runs its backend as a service beside it; Claude Code helps someone who writes code. Fabricate sits between them: it builds a web app from a description, with the database, sign-in and server routes written into the app's own code, and every app is checked in a real browser before it can be published. Building and previewing are free; publishing is on Pro and Max.

  • Describe the app in plain words: no editor, terminal or setup
  • The backend is written into the app's own code: server routes in a Durable Object on Cloudflare Workers, with its own SQLite database
  • Every app is opened in a real browser and checked before it can be published
  • On Pro and Max, see, edit and download the code, or send it to GitHub

Frequently asked questions

Is Lovable or Claude Code better?
For someone who does not write code, Lovable: it builds the app, its database and sign-in from a chat, and publishes it. For someone who does, Claude Code: an agent that reads a codebase, edits files, runs commands and opens pull requests, in whatever stack you use. Claude Code hosts nothing, so you deploy its work yourself.
Is Claude Code cheaper than Lovable?
Its entry price is: Claude Pro is $20 a month ($17 billed yearly) against Lovable Pro's $25 ($21 billed yearly), and Claude Pro includes Claude chat. But Claude Code has no free plan and no hosting, so the app's host, database and domain are extra. Lovable's free plan can put an app online, and Pro covers hosting for most small apps.
Can I use Claude Code on a Lovable project?
Yes, through GitHub. Connect the Lovable project to a GitHub repository, which works on every Lovable plan, and run Claude Code on that repository. Lovable's sync runs both ways, so the changes Claude Code pushes show up in Lovable.
Does Claude Code host or deploy apps?
No. Claude Code writes, runs and commits code, and can work in CI, but the app runs wherever you deploy it, on a host you choose and pay for. Lovable publishes every app to a lovable.app address, with your own domain from Pro.
What are Claude Code's usage limits?
They are the Claude plan's, shared with chat: a five-hour window plus weekly limits. Max, at $100 a month, gives 5x Pro's usage. Ultra, at $200, has no five-hour limit for verified accounts and gives 10x Pro's usage every week. Past the limits, usage credits keep it going at API rates.
