Replit vs Claude Code in 2026
Both have an AI agent that writes and runs code for you. Replit's works in a browser workspace that also hosts the app and its database; Claude Code works in your own repository, from a terminal, an editor or the browser, and leaves hosting to you. Both start at $20 a month.
The short answer: pick Replit if you want everything in one place. The Agent builds the app in the browser, and publishing, the database and hosting are paid from the same monthly credits. Starter publishes one app for free. Pick Claude Code if you have your own codebase or stack. It edits files, runs commands and opens pull requests, from Claude Pro at $20 a month, and you deploy where you like.

When to pick which
Replit
Replit is a workspace in the browser where its Agent builds and changes an app from a description, with the code, a terminal and a database there for you to work in as well. It imports from GitHub, Figma, Bolt, Lovable, Base44 or a ZIP, builds phone apps it can take to the App Store, and keeps the code in Git with GitHub sync. Publishing is built in: the free Starter plan publishes one app, which goes down after 30 days, and Core publishes as many as you like, paying for hosting, network transfer and database storage from the same monthly credits as the Agent. Pro adds up to 10 agents working in parallel, more collaborators and database rollback.
Choose it if
- You want building, the database and hosting in one place, on one bill
- You want to try it free, with one published app on Starter
- You want a phone app, and help sending it to the App Store
- You want several agents working at once, on Pro
Claude Code
Claude Code is Anthropic's coding agent. It reads your codebase, edits files, runs commands and works with your other tools, and it runs in the terminal, in VS Code and JetBrains, in a desktop app and in the browser, including on a phone. It works with git itself: it stages changes, writes commit messages, creates branches and opens pull requests. It reads a CLAUDE.md file (or an AGENTS.md) at the start of every session, connects to other tools through MCP, and can split a job across several agents. It comes with Claude's paid plans and runs Claude's models.
Choose it if
- You have your own repository, framework and host, and want an agent to work in them
- You already pay for Claude Pro, Max or Ultra, which include Claude Code
- You want hosting that does not draw on your AI budget
- You want commits, pull requests and code review in GitHub, or runs in CI
Replit Agent and Claude Code, side by side
Both now do the same core job: you describe a change, an agent writes the code, runs it and fixes what breaks. The difference is everything around the agent. Replit wraps it in a workspace in the browser, with the code, a terminal, a database and publishing on the same screen, so the app is online the moment it works. Claude Code runs in your terminal, your editor, its desktop app or the browser, against a repository you own, and stops at the code.
That shapes the bill. On Replit, one pool of credits pays for the Agent and for running the app: publishing, network transfer and database storage. That is convenient, but a popular app competes with your next feature for the same $20. Claude Code's plan covers only Claude; you pick a host and pay it separately, which costs more setup but keeps the two budgets apart.
Teams that already have a codebase tend to choose Claude Code, because it fits their git workflow, pull requests and CI. People starting from nothing, or who want a phone app in the App Store without setting up a toolchain, tend to start on Replit.
Which for which job
A side project you want online tonight
Replit's Agent builds it in the browser and publishes it, and Starter keeps one app up for 30 days for free.
Pick Replit
A codebase your team already runs
Claude Code works in the repository you have, follows its CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md, and opens pull requests for review.
Pick Claude Code
An app with steady traffic
On Replit, hosting and the database come out of the same credits as the Agent, so check publishing costs as traffic grows. With Claude Code, hosting is billed by the host you pick, apart from your Claude plan.
Either works
A phone app for the App Store
Replit builds phone apps and can upload them to App Store Connect. Claude Code writes the code if your project is a mobile app, and leaves publishing to you.

What they cost
Replit
- Starter, $0
- Daily Agent credits and one published app, which goes down after 30 days, with a "Made with Replit" badge.
- Core, $20 a month
- $18 a month billed yearly. Monthly credits that pay for the Agent, publishing, network transfer and database storage; publish as many apps as you like.
- Pro, $100 a month
- $90 a month billed yearly. Up to 10 agents in parallel, 15 collaborators and 50 viewers, and database rollback up to 28 days.
- Enterprise
- Custom, with single sign-on, SCIM, audit logs and single-tenant options.
Claude Code
- Free
- No Claude Code: it needs a paid Claude plan.
- Pro, $20 a month
- $17 a month billed yearly ($200 a year). Claude Code included, sharing usage limits with chat.
- Max, $100 a month
- 5x Pro's usage every five hours and every week, and $100 a month of API credits.
- Ultra, $200 a month
- No five-hour limit for verified accounts, 10x Pro's usage every week, and $200 a month of API credits.
- Team and Enterprise
- Team seats, and Enterprise at $20 a seat a month plus usage at API rates, billed yearly.
At $20 a month they look the same, Replit Core against Claude Pro, but the money goes to different places. Replit's $20 of monthly credits pays for the Agent and for keeping the app online: publishing, network transfer and database storage all draw on it, so a busy app leaves less for building. Claude Pro pays for Claude Code and Claude chat within five-hour and weekly limits, and nothing else; the app's host and database are separate bills. Replit's free Starter plan publishes one app for 30 days, and Claude Code has no free plan. At $100, Replit Pro buys parallel agents and more collaborators, and Claude Max 5x Pro's usage. Claude's Ultra, at $200, drops the five-hour limit for verified accounts.
Where Fabricate fits
We make Fabricate
If you want the app without the workspace or the terminal
Replit gives you a workspace to build in, and Claude Code an agent for your own codebase; both assume you will look at code. Fabricate builds a web app from a description, with the database, sign-in and server routes written into the app's own code, and serving the published app is part of the plan rather than a draw on your AI credits. Building and previewing are free; publishing is on Pro and Max.
- Describe the app in plain words: no editor, terminal or setup
- Credits pay for AI work, building the app and, on Pro and Max, the AI inside it; serving the published app is part of the plan
- Every app is opened in a real browser and checked before it can be published
- On Pro and Max, see, edit and download the code, or send it to GitHub
Build free, go live on Pro.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Replit or Claude Code better?
- Replit is better if you want one place to build, run and host the app: its Agent works in a browser workspace, and publishing and the database are built in. Claude Code is better if you have your own codebase and host: it is an agent that edits files, runs commands and opens pull requests in any repository, and it hosts nothing.
- Which is cheaper, Replit or Claude Code?
- Both start at $20 a month: Replit Core ($18 billed yearly) and Claude Pro ($17 billed yearly). Replit's $20 of credits also pays for hosting, network transfer and database storage, so a busy app leaves less for building. Claude Pro pays only for Claude, chat and Claude Code, and the app's hosting is a separate bill. Replit has a free plan that publishes one app for 30 days; Claude Code has none.
- Can I use Claude Code with a Replit project?
- Through Git. Replit keeps a project's code in Git and syncs it with GitHub, and Claude Code works on any repository, so you can run it on the same code and push the changes back. Keep the hosting where it is, on Replit, or deploy elsewhere.
- Does Claude Code host apps like Replit?
- No. Claude Code writes, runs and commits code, and works in CI, but the app runs wherever you deploy it. Replit publishes apps itself, paying for hosting from your monthly credits; Starter keeps one app online for 30 days.
- How do Replit's credits compare with Claude Code's limits?
- Replit counts dollars of credit: Core includes $20 a month and Pro $100, spent by the Agent and by publishing, network transfer and database storage. Claude Code counts usage against Claude's limits, a five-hour window plus weekly limits shared with chat. Max gives 5x Pro's usage, and Ultra no five-hour limit for verified accounts.
